Lab Experiences
During my time at the University of California San Diego, I was fortunate enough to develop lab skills pertaining to Recombinant DNA as well as Organic Chemistry. Importantly, I also learned how to write and efficiently comprehend scientific literature. In the Future, I hope to further hone my lab skills and become engrossed with up to date procedures that are being utilized in Modern Research Labs.

Recombinant DNA
In this Lab, the primary goal was to create bioluminescent E. Coli bacteria by inserting a recombined plasmid that contains the genes for luciferase. Overall, this lab provided the opportunity to better understand techniques such as Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCR), Agarose Gel electrophoresis, Protein and Nucleic Acid isolation, and DNA Restriction Digestion
Organic Chemistry
In this Lab, the goal was to better understand the synthesis of a variety of organic compounds utilizing modern analytical chemistry techniques. This lab provided the opportunity to master techniques such as recrystallization, Extraction, Chromatography, and Distillation. All of which were carried out with proper, safe chemical handling and risk assessment.
